Seven Generations and #7
The Great Law of Peace of the indigenous-American Haudenosaunee states that their leaders must always consider the interest of the entire people, including future generations. Inspired by this principle, Rem visits the Haudenosaunee reservations in North-America to learn more about their worldview and philosophy of life.
In Seven Generations native Americans answer questions of Dutch school children about their way of life. While focussing on respect for the environment, Rem’s documentary also reveals the tension between the idealized image of a people who are ‘one with nature’ and the every-day reality in the reservations.
"In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations."
#7
Back in the Netherlands, Rem organizes a Seven Generations exhibition and sets up an educational programme about sustainability. He also starts the social media project #7 to create more awareness of our stewardship of the earth.
